Bounce goes the check...

So tired of the excuses that retailers get when a customer's check turns to rubber. The equivalent of "the dog ate my homework". If only they realized how much farther the truth would get them... i.e. "I'm very sorry that I didn't have sufficient funds in the bank to cover the check that I wrote to you. Now, tell me what I owe you and how I can make the payment to settle the bill"

If they only knew how much of a fool that they make of themselves by saying things like...

... "the bank screwed up and deducted the wrong account"

... "my husband was writing checks out of the wrong account, he grabbed my purse by mistake"

... "some water got on my checks and it smeared the actual balance so that I couldn't read it"

... "It shouldn't have happened, I know that there's money in there"

... "my name is similar to another customer's, and the bank got it mixed up"

Please folks... If you write a rubber check just do the right thing:

1. Call the business
2. Apologize for the inconvenience to them
3. Ask how much extra you owe them (as the banks always charge extra for NSF)
4. Work out a way to pay them in cash or credit card... and then do it!
5. Don't mess around with this hackneyed and lame reasoning of: "Just run it through again." We (the business owner)already know that there just isn't enough funds in your account!
