I noticed a lady with a two year old at a recent Falconer, NY. Birthday Party event. The small child was attracting a lot of attention from other parents. Some of the adults were referring to him as the devil child. I thought that was a little cruel until I watched as he blatantly pushed another boy off of a sitting log, and no more than fifteen minutes later he slammed the jail door on the same child's fingers. The "devil child's" mom had witnessed both events and said nothing to the other mom. I kept my lips sealed and elected to stay out of it (in retrospect I wished that I would have intervened, she needed a good old fashioned chewing out on how to apologize to the other mom). That same (devils child) mom had earlier pulled her car into my parking lot and wiped out a five foot tall parking sign. She never once apologized, even when I politely pointed it out to her in the middle of the Gem Mining event, she just laughed it off!
Now, it took me a full hour to repair the sign, and all the time I spent thinking of her incident and those of her son: "the apple sure doesn't fall far from the tree".
I had promised the party mom that I would not blog about her, and I do hope that she understands that this blog is in no way a slam on "her". In fact "she" was one of the nicest moms that we have had here in "Dry Gulch". She even crawled under the picnic table to clean up the corn curls which had fallen to the concrete, at the end of the event. The "other" (devils child)mom could learn a whole lot about manners and decorum from the party mom.
