This time of the season is always marked by one of my favorite groups, "Mineral Minds" from the Ripley/Westfield area. These kids are full of high octane energy (just as kids should be), and the cold windy weather never seems to bother them.
During the event I always play games and award prizes to them, but this year it was I (Sheriff Bill) who got the grand prize. As I was sitting atop the hay bale cart asking questions, they spontaneously broke out in song... "I've been working on the Railroad". Even the moms joined in!
It was absolutely so cute to sit there and listen to these guys performing, and I do mean performing! They were singing at the top of their lungs, and each begging for the attention and acknowledgement of "Sheriff Bill". I guess that you just had to be there to know what I'm talking about... a moment that I will never ever forget!
Just after their musical entertainment, our town siren went off. They all got very quiet, so I yelled... "We're under attack"! Without blinking an eye, they all went running for cover and laughing... one child even went and hugged a tree! This group is so spontaneous and way cool. I love them and their excellent teachers and organizers of the event... Miss Kathy and Mr. Mike.
P.S. My Deputy Devon was the cutest five year old ever!!!
